Lee Taylor, a fabulous Chef at John Gulson Primary School, who trained as a Chef in the Army is helping the children to taste  “The world on a plate”.

He is in the process of compiling his own cookbook of healthy delicious recipes to tempt parents and children to cook together.

Lee and his daughter Ellie cook together every day enjoying the experience of creating  home cooked food.
Why not try this very simple Calzone recipe to encourage parents and children to cook together and try new foods? Take a look at Lee’s basic recipe and add herbs and vegetables or just serve with a side of salad.

Ingredients for 1 calzone

 1 x 10 inch tortilla wrap

1 teaspoon tomato puree

1 tablespoon grated cheddar cheese

I egg, beaten

 Pre-heat oven to 180c

  1. Place the wrap on a flat surface, spread the tomato puree on one half of the wrap leaving 2cm from the edge.
  2. Cover the tomato puree with the cheese.
  3. Egg wash around the edge of the covered wrap and fold over the other half and seal together.
  4. Take a fork and crimp around the edge of the calzone until the seal is tight, we don’t want cheese melting out.
  5. Egg wash the outside of the wrap and place on a oven tray.
  6. Put in the pre-heated oven on the middle shelf for 8 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Serve with a salad on the side.
