The school nursing service takes over from the health visiting service and is here to support the health and wellbeing of your child.

The school nursing service is comprised of qualified nurses and specialist practitioners, supported by school nurse assistants who are trained and experienced in working with children and young people.  The service promotes the health and well-being of all children and young people ensuring early help and support is readily available when needed.

The teams work in schools and the local community to promote and provide support around good physical health as well as emotional health and wellbeing.  Support is provided from the earliest point; from a child’s entry into school right through to the end of their school life.  Each school is assigned a school nurse, this ensures you and your child sees the same school nurse providing continuity of care.  The service works in partnership with other health services, social care and education professionals bringing together a wide range of agencies to ensure accessibility to all as and when needed.

An introduction letter will be sent via your child’s school’s new entry parent pack.  This will include details on the services offered by school nurses and how to contact the team.  This will also include details on how to complete the school entry health review for your child.  Please ensure you complete this as it will mean your child’s needs are identified and supported at an early stage.
