This accessibility statement applies to www.healthforkids.co.uk

This website is run by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • the games in the ‘Kids’ section of the website are not accessible using the keyboard
  • there is moving content on the games pages that cannot be paused
  • some background images have not been indicated as being decorative
  • some content provided as text within an image does not provide an accessible text-only alternative

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some images are incorrectly identified as meaningful, this fails WCAG 1.1.1.

Some images containing text do not provide a text alternative, this fails WCAG 1.1.1.

Search functionality can lead to a keyboard trap when navigating away, this fails WCAG 2.1.2.

Some elements receive tab focus without being visibly highlighted, this fails WCAG 2.4.7.

Video content is not provided with a text or audio equivalent, this fails WCAG 1.2.1.

There is no audio description provided for video content, this fails WCAG 1.2.5.

Parsing errors have been identified with some elements having invalid attributes, this fails WCAG 4.1.1.

We plan to address the above issues by the end of December 2022.

Disproportionate Burden

Games are unable to be accessed when using the keyboard, this fails WCAG 2.1.1.

Some pages with games feature content that moves on the screen without a means to pause it, this fails WCAG 2.2.2.

Due to the costs involved in redeveloping the games, we are unable to commit to resolving the issues at this time.  This will be reviewed by the end of December 2022.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our pages link to PDF documents provided by external organisations for additional content.  Whilst these documents are outside of our control, we will update links to web page content where possible when articles are reviewed.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was last reviewed on 21st July 2021.

This website was last tested on 16th June 2021. The test was carried out in-house by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust using the Accessibility Insights for Web tool.

We used a sample of pages for testing which covered different content types, including written and interactive content.
