Sleep is vital for good health and for children to be able to meet their full potential.

The Average sleep hours for a primary school child vary between 11 and half to 9 hours the latter the older you get.

Consistency with same bedtimes and bedtime routines are key, to have same bedtime and same wake up time every day, even weekends!

Ensuring your child is in a safe, quiet, and dimly lit environment before bed, calming activities, such as looking at books together or playing a jigsaw whilst discussing their day.

Avoiding stimulating activities (TV, screens) which can inhibit our sleep hormone melatonin and dimming the lights to helps to increase our sleep hormone, helping us to feel drowsy.

Many children have Nightmares or night terrors, but most grow out of them, click here for advice on Night Terrors on the NHS Webiste.

The Sleep Charity also has lots of help and advice for parents, click here to visit their website.

If you do require any support with routines or have issues with your child settling and waking at night, please do contact your school nurse
