The most impressive solar eclipse for almost 30 years can be enjoyed by people across the country on Wednesday 12 August 2026.
Around 90-96 per cent of the Sun will be covered by the Moon shortly after 6pm, with the precise time varying by location.
A solar eclipse takes place when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, causing our lunar satellite to cast a shadow on Earth.

Measles is circulating in communities in North London, with a number of cases having been identified recently. To help reduce the risk of further measles cases, the UK Health Security Agency is advising everyone to be alert to signs and symptoms and urge people to check their families are fully vaccinated against measles. Measles is highly contagious and can be a serious, life-threatening disease for people of any age. Two doses of the MMR vaccine provide lifelong protection against measles, mumps and rubella. If you have not had the MMR vaccination, please contact your GP practice.
