Family services

Heads Up Leicester

Heads Up (previously known as the Centre for Fun and Families) provides help for young people and their parents with challenging behaviour and conflict, low mood and depression, worry and anxiety, low self confidence and low self-esteem. They also help young parents (under 25) on their parenting journey from pregnancy through to their child turning 2 years old.

​Families are at the heart of everything they do and aim to put the fun back into family life! ​

Leicestershire Autistic Society

The Leicestershire Autistic Society provides support, information and advice to families and professionals dealing with Autism in Leicestershire, Leicester City and Rutland.

Menphys Centre

Menphys provide an outreach service, Menphys SOS, throughout Leicestershire and Leicester, offering a wide range of services to families of children and young people 0-19 with disabilities and special educational needs.

Talk²Sort Mediation

The talk²sort Mediation Service works with young people aged 11-19, and their families, who may be having problems at home or with their relationships. They support people to explore ways of resolving conflict. 

Feelings and emotions

Adhar Project

Adhar Project is a Leicester based mental health charity providing a range of low-level, community based support opportunities for those in the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups with mental health needs, as well as supporting their families and carers. 

Harmless

Harmless work with people who self-harm, or are at risk of self-harm, in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They work with anyone, at any age.

Lamp Mental Health Advocacy

Lamp offers free to access mental health advocacy in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Their service is confidential and non-judgmental. 

You may already have been diagnosed with a mental health condition or you might be experiencing early signs and symptoms and be unsure where to turn. They can help. 

My Self-Referral

My Self-Referral helps young people under the age of 18 with their mental health. On their website you can refer yourself for mental health support if you fall under certain criteria. 

Start a Conversation

Start a Conversation is a suicide prevention campaign that runs across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The aim is to create a welcoming environment where care and support is available to all those who need it, those who have lost someone and those who have been affected by suicide in any way. 

Tellmi

Tellmi is a digital mental health service for anyone over the age of 11 that is available free of charge across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. 

The Laura Centre

The Laura Centre is a professional bereavement service that believes in providing a safe, friendly and inclusive environment for families dealing with a loss.

Barnardo’s CareFree Project

You may be able to get help at home for you and your child if they’re spending a lot of time caring for you. To find out more have at Barnardo’s carefree project.

ChatAutism

ChatAutism is a text messaging service that provides a safe and easy way for young people with an autism diagnosis to get confidential help and advice. Through ChatAutism, autistic young people are able to access advice and support directly from the Specialist Autism Team. 

Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS)

The Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) is for children and young people, and their families, who experience difficulties in the development of their gender identity. It’s a national specialised service, based in London and Leeds, and is the only one of its kind in Great Britain 

Leicester LGBT Centre

Leicester Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Centre is a voluntary organisation established to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

New Dawn New Day

New Dawn New Day has worked to support the wellbeing of women and girls in Leicester and Leicestershire for over 30 years. They started out as a community-based women’s centre in the 1980s, and now deliver a range of services to vulnerable and socially excluded women designed to meet their multiple and complex needs. 

Turning Point

The young person and young adult team service can offer support to individuals aged between 13 to 24 support and advice on substance misuse. 

Women’s Aid Leicester

Advice and support for women and children experiencing and fleeing from domestic abuse across Leicester and Leicestershire. 

Staying healthy

FLiC (Family Lifestyle Club)

The Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetic Service offer FLiC, a Family Lifestyle Club.   FLiC is run by Dietitians and local physical activity leaders.

It is an 8-week programme (meeting once each week) for children aged 8-13 years and their families, offering support and information about weight management.

Healthier Families

The new name for the NHS Change4Life programme, Healthier Families offers lots of support, advice and practical tips to help you and your family eat better and move more.

Live Well Leicester

Live Well Leicester are fully committed to supporting local communities in Leicester to become, happier, healthier and fitter by offering access to a wide range of support services including access to: 

  • Stop Smoking support 
  • Help to manage your alcohol intake 
  • Help with managing your weight and healthy eating 
  • Access and signposting into various programmes that can support you to increase your levels of physical activity including walking programmes across the City
