Energy drinks

You might have heard about or seen people drinking energy drinks to feel more awake.

These drinks are not healthy magic potions, they are high in sugar and caffeine – both of these are not healthy, especially for young people.

Shops only sell energy drinks to people over 16 for this reason.

Energy drinks can:

  • Make you feel or be sick
  • Give you a tummy ache
  • Make you feel frightened or sad
  • Damage your teeth
  • Make your heart feel like it’s moving really fast
  • Give you a headache

If you are feeling tired, instead of having an energy drink you could:

  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Eat healthy food
  • Exercise or play with your friends
  • Drink plenty of water
