Reception hearing and vision screening

During their reception year in school, your child will be offered a hearing and vision screen. You will be sent information about this by your school.

If your child is absent we may be able to visit your child’s school to attempt to see them again, if they are absent on the second attempt you will be notified and given advice on the next steps.

This film explains the school screening process in West Sussex, which is run by the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 team at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust:

We will not screen your child if they are already seeing a specialist for either their hearing or vision, or if they wear glasses or a hearing aid.

If you have any concerns about your child’s vision, please visit the NHS website.
