Traded Services

We offer a range of service to schools and other educational providers which are in addition to our core commissioned services. Schools can buy in these services for a additional change

Who are we?

We are a highly trained and skilled team of Qualified School Nurses, Staff Nurses, and Nursery Nurses. Clinical Support Workers and administrative support employed by Walsall NHS Healthcare Trust with over 40 years of experience delivering high quality, effective services to children, young people and their families. We have an excellent track record in working in Partnership with schools and wider services to improve outcomes for children and young people.

The service is managed by a Professional Lead and comprises of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN – School Nurses) and Staff Nurses who are qualified registered nurses, regulated by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC), Nursery Nurses and clinical support workers. Our SCPHN hold additional graduate and post graduate qualifications in Children’s Public Health Nursing. We hold licences as facilitators and trainers for a range of children’s therapeutic groups and parenting programmes.

Our Core Offer

The School Nursing service is commissioned by Public Health in the Local Authority. The contract is to provide the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 to all children and young people in Walsall. We a range of services as part of our core offer which is accessible to all schools and alternative education providers. This provision includes:

  • Assessment, treatment, advice and support to individual children and young people with a range of health and developmental needs, working closely with our colleagues in therapies, community paediatrics and acute & community children’s nursing services
  • Health promotion, prevention and education activities e.g. support for the PSHE curriculum. Parent information workshop on the aspect of child health e.g. healthy lifestyles
  • Therapeutic groups for children and young people
  • Parenting programmes

Additional Offer – Our Traded Services

In addition to our core offer, there is an opportunity to purchase additional, bespoke services in your setting to enhance provision and further improve outcomes for children. This might include training for staff, targeted therapeutic groups for pupils and delivery of health education as part of your PSHE/RSE offer. Together we can shape the unique service you require to meet the needs of the children in your care.

*On 1 September 2014 a new duty came into force for governing bodies to make arrangements to support pupils at school with medical conditions. The aim is to ensure that all children with medical conditions, in terms of both physical and mental health, are properly supported in school so that they can play a full and active role in school life, remain healthy and achieve their academic potential (DfE, 2015)
