Keeping Leicester residents fit and healthy with a Family Lifestyle Club (FLiC)
What is FLiC?
The Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetic Service offer a Family Lifestyle Club (FLiC).
FLiC is run by dietitians and local physical activity leaders.
It is an 8-week programme (meeting once each week) for children aged 8-13 years and their families, offering support and information about weight management. Each weekly session will involve some fun active games for the children lead by the physical activity co-ordinator.
Whilst the children are involved in active games, there will be a topic based discussion for parents led by a dietitian.
At the end of each session, children and parents get back together to take part in a fun, informative and food preparation/tasting session.
When and where are the groups?
Groups start in January, May and October each year in a number of locations around Leicester. All groups are completely free of charge too.
For those unable to make the face-to-face sessions, weekly phone or video programmes are currently being developed.
How do I book on?
To find out more about the groups or where your nearest group is taking place, please call 0116 2227154, email FLIC@lnds.nhs.uk or visit the Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetic Service website.
Further support
Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust run a confidential secure text messaging service for parents of children aged 0-19 years called ChatHealth. The service operates Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm, excluding bank holidays.
All texts will be responded to by a public health nurse (health visitor/school nurse) within 24 hours. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens.
Should you require urgent health advice in the meantime, please contact your GP, visit an NHS walk-in centre or call NHS 111. For emergencies, dial 999 or visit A&E.
