Groups for children and young people.

We provide FRIENDS groups which teach children and young people the skills to improve their confidence and self-esteem. These programmes are delivered across all age groups. Fun FRIENDS 4-7; Primary FRIENDS 7-13 and Teen FRIENDS 13 years +. The programmes have a strong evidence base. More details about the FRIENDS programmes can be found at https://www.friendsresilience.org/

Groups for parents and carers

We deliver a series of workshops to help parents and carers to understand children’s emotions and children’s behaviour. These are short sessions which are a good introduction to our service and provide useful tips and hints of strategies that you can try at home.

We deliver Parenting Groups such as ‘Understanding your Child’s Behaviour’, Triple P and Cygnet (for parents/carers of children with an diagnosis of Autism). These programmes are part of a Multi agency approach to Walsall Ways of Parenting.

Stress, anxiety and depression are common mental health difficulties which can affect anyone. Parenting is a demanding job and these problems can make parenting even more of challenge. We deliver an adult resiliency group which is part of the FRIENDS programme and is a great way to meet new people and learn new skills to help improve confidence and self esteem.

Individual assessments for children and young people

School Nurses have additional training and experience of working with children and young people to assess difficulties with emotional health and/or behaviour. We encourage a child or young person to attend one of our groups and a parent/carers to attend our workshops or groups. If a child or young person is still experiencing problems after accessing these interventions then we will invite the parent/carer to bring their child to a health review. The School Nurse can commence as assessment of their child’s needs. We work closely with other health colleagues in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), Community Paediatricians and Therapies and we may refer a child or young person to one of these services.

Text Service for parents.
